DIGITALK launches SIP Application Server for new operator services

DIGITALK announces the launch of its Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Application Server which provides the intelligence for operators to develop, control and deliver SIP-based services.

The DIGITALK Application Server, part of the overall DIGITALK SIP portfolio, provides the capability for operators to introduce new SIP-based applications, such as audio and video conferencing, call forwarding or any number of enhanced call controls.

“SIP provides the network control for IP sessions that is necessary for operators to build on the growing popularity of basic broadband telephony and VoIP services,” said Justin Norris, managing director and co founder of DIGITALK, “SIP application servers provide the intelligence that frees operators to begin developing and launching sophisticated, personalised IP telephony services in the knowledge that they can be precisely controlled."

Subscribers who use SIP-based services are always in direct contact when they begin a call, or ‘session’, whether they use a SIP phone, laptop, mobile handset or PDA to initiate the session, and can also share multimedia content during the session. Operators using SIP open the way to operating cost benefits from the integration between basic IP telephony and fully interactive multimedia services while using the same IP infrastructure.

The DIGITALK SIP-enabled portfolio of products, which includes provision for trunking and proxy servers, allows operators to capitalise on the capability of SIP to offer increased operational economies over traditional networks, while gracefully migrating their voice networks to IP.

The DIGITALK Application Server has been developed as a software-based SIP call processing platform to support existing services whilst enabling the introduction of new services quickly and simply, and also as an alternative to IN for Next Generation Networks (NGN). The Application Server has been designed to operate as a value added platform enhancement to existing softswitch technologies or alongside media gateways to offer enhanced media services. DIGITALK’s portfolio of SIP enabled products allows operators to launch services such as Broadband Telephony using the DIGITALK SIP proxy server. The server supports full voice NAT and firewall traversal, and DIGITALK SIP trunking, which uses enhanced codecs supporting G.711, G.729 and G.723 with full SIP call control support.
