The DIGITALK Multiservice Platform has been designed thinking about how our customers deploy services to their customers. In today’s hyper-competitive environment, networking equipment needs to enable Service Providers to launch leading edge and profitable services, which meet the needs of sophisticated end user customers.
DIGITALK produces Application Guides to help Service Providers identify potential applications and services they can offer to their customers. These are drawn from both within DIGITALK and from actual customer deployments. In addition, DIGITALK Professional Services are available to assist customers in the development and deployment of new services.
Broadband Telephony
The telecommunications market has changed beyond recognition in the last few years; shifting patterns of working, new enterprise applications, and an ever evolving regulatory landscape are all pushing the boundaries in a shifting market place, where as user sophistication increases, cost saving technologies are increasingly coming to the fore. No shift is potentially greater than that caused by the introduction of new technologies such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), a technology so revolutionary that it threatens to change even the most fundamental of networking principles, network design for voice services.
In this Application Guide, DIGITALK offers a view on the market and how DIGITALK has developed solutions to help Service Providers meet the challenges of this dramatic shift in technology.

Service Convergence
The term 'convergence' in voice and data services has been used in Telecommunications for many years, but it is only in the last few that there has been any kind of delivery on the promises. In Telecommunications circles, ‘convergence’ has been both misused and perhaps misunderstood, but over time it has come to mean the use of a single medium in the place of many, with perhaps the ‘vision of the future’ being one of the most significant drivers; a vision where ease of use and delivery of service is greatly improved, for both the Service Provider and the end user alike.
In this Application Guide, DIGITALK describes a real world converged voice and Internet solution, which has been deployed using DIGITALK technology.

SS7 over IP
Although it is widely understood that in the world of voice services, SS7 is the common standard to enable telephony networks, in these times of the search for cost reductions and as Service Providers strive for greater efficiencies, new approaches in network design are emerging, driven by packet based technologies such as IP. DIGITALK has recognised this trend and has developed an integrated IP voice trunk card which allows SS7, with all the capabilities it provides to be passed over core IP networks.
Using a real world example, in this Application Guide, DIGITALK describes how IP can be used by Service Providers to vastly reduce transmission costs across a distributed SS7 network.
